The International Council of World Evangelical Alliance through its Search Committee embarked on a search for a new Secretary General in February (WEA). The WEA is heartened to confirm that its global search for a new Secretary General is proceeding according to the agreed schedule.
Applications and nominations were invited for the post.
The application period officially closed in May, and the Search Committee is currently reviewing submissions and shortlisting candidates. Final interviews will take place in July. The Secretary General is appointed by and reports to the WEA International Council (through its Chair and Executive Committee), which is composed of representatives from regions around the world. The successful candidate will be selected in August and inaugurated at the General Assembly in Seoul this October.
“We are encouraged by the quality and diversity of applicants from across the global evangelical Church,” said Godfrey Yogarajah who heads the WEA Search Committee. The Search Committee comprises members who are both men and women from several regions and generations. “We are engaging in a robust process alongside prayer, careful discernment and a deep desire to see the leadership serve the global evangelical community with humility, vision, and integrity.”
These sentiments were echoed by the Dr Goodwill Shana the WEA Executive Chair who added that, “This will be critical and significant in the life of the WEA and its future, and will be instrumental in the WEA ‘s role in the evangelical family and the world.”
The new Secretary General is overall responsible for the WEA, leads in the articulation and promotion of the mission, vision, and values of the WEA, fostering a cohesive direction for the alliance and its member organizations. The role is central to strategic and effective operations of the WEA, strengthening its stakeholder base, championing the gospel and evangelical unity, leveraging collaborative relationship and voicing shared concerns in the public square.
