RASUWA DISTRICT, Nepal — Devastating floods and landslides have struck Nepal’s Rasuwa District, particularly around the Timure and Syabrubesi areas, damaging roads, bridges, homes and other infrastructure and leaving many people missing, according to church and relief leaders.
At Timure, where six churches were previously reported, two churches were reportedly swept away. Relief updates also cited deaths of more than 125 believers, with officials saying confirmation is pending as search and assessment efforts continue.
Church leaders said response efforts from both National Christian Fellowship Nepal as well as Nepal Christian Society are underway from Kathmandu, including three teams traveling to affected areas on mountain bikes to assess needs and a rescue team equipped to provide medical assistance. Local leaders are also working to secure district-level approvals to expand relief operations.
Rev. Dilli Ram Paudel of the Nepal Evangelical Alliance urged prayer for families of the missing and those who have lost loved ones, as well as for the safety of rescue and medical workers and for churches and households directly affected by the disaster.
Local sources report that floodwaters swept through multiple communities, leaving residents facing continued hardship even as the water began to recede. More than 8,000 people have been affected by communication disruptions, and many areas remain without electricity or reliable mobile or radio service, the leaders said. They also reported that more than 40% of roads in the affected areas have been destroyed or severely damaged, complicating access for rescuers.
Both financial and prayer support is being requested for those affected. This also includes emergency food, clean drinking water, shelter and non-food items, medical assistance, and transportation and logistics for responders.
How You Can Help
Nepal’s churches are already responding. Teams are riding mountain bikes into valleys where the roads have gone. Medical workers are moving across unstable ground. Pastors are opening what buildings remain to neighbors who have lost everything — and doing it while grieving losses of their own.
They have asked the global Church for two things.
