Deputy Secretary General Rev. Dr. Brian Winslade is retiring from his role with the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA). He joined the International Council from July 2018 representing the South Pacific region and became the Secretary in December 2019 until the end of February 2021 when he joined the executive leadership and became part of the Office of the Secretary General.

In his role as Deputy Secretary General, he oversaw the different programmatic departments while also leading the area of Alliance Engagement. He launched a video blog interviewing different National Evangelical Alliance leaders and introducing WEA networks and partners that are relevant to strengthening Alliances. He also oversaw the creation of a series of booklets and brochures that explain what Alliances are, how they function, and how to start a new one in countries where Alliances do not yet exist.

Last month, Dr. Winslade announced that he would be stepping back from leadership, among others because of health reasons and the challenge of frequent travel that comes with the role. He will remain involved as a board member with the New Zealand Christian Network, WEA’s national member body in his native country.

“We are grateful for Brian’s contribution to the WEA, both as a member of the board and as part of the executive leadership for more than a year. He has been a great support during the time of leadership transition and has brought fresh ideas and energy into the Alliance Engagement Department, which is an area that is at the heart of what the WEA is about,” said Bishop Dr. Thomas Schirrmacher, WEA Secretary General. He added, “we wish him all the best and God’s blessings for his future.”

The search process for a successor for the role has begun.
