From the 12 to the 16 September 2005, the United Nations will hold a high level plenary meeting in New York — also referred to as a summit — to review the implementation of the Millennium Declaration (2000), and the integrated follow-up to the major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic, social and related fields. Member States (including Zambia) at the summit will also deliberate the Secretary General’s report on the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals

Micah Challenge a global campaign against poverty of the World Evangelical Alliance and the Micah Network has designated 11 of September as Micah Sunday. Jubilee Centre is Micah Challenge national campaign facilitator. In the spirit of Micah 6:8 “…what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” And in support of the Millennium Development Goals to halve poverty by 2015, we are asking your congregation to join millions of Christians throughout the world to pray for the leaders that will attend the Millennium+5 Summit. Please focus your prayers on the following two points: Intercede for President Levy Mwanawasa and other leaders that they announce bold and concrete steps to keep their promise to halve poverty by 2015; That your congregation deepen the understanding of ‘holistic mission’ and your engagement with the poor communities. We have limited activity guides of Micah Challenge Season of Prayer and Advocacy Kit that you can make use of, in observing this day. You can either call us or you go to micahchallenge.org for help.

Micah Challenge is a call to take stoke of what your church has done to lessen poverty, and to commit to do more. Join with other churches for Micah Sunday and lift your voices to him who spoke through the prophet Isaiah, “The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying. No more shall an infant from there live but a few days, Nor an old man who has not fulfilled his days.” (Isaiah 65:19-20).

Let us know if you would want a member of Jubilee Centre to participate in your Micah Sunday. Ndola resident join us in the Overnight Prayer Meeting at Mpezeni Hall Chifubu on Friday 2nd September from 20:00. Theme: Make Poverty History

In Him,

Lawrence Temfwe
