WORLD EVANGELICAL ALLIANCE WOMEN’S COMMISSION

GLOBAL COUNCIL MEETING 1ST-5TH MAY 2006

PRESS RELEASE

Owing to the global impact of the growing HIV/AIDS pandemic, resulting in problems such as: –

· Major Health Issues

· Fragmented and Dysfunctional Families

· Children at Risk (Child labour/orphans

· Poverty

· Unprecedented suffering

· Loss of Life

The World Evangelical Alliance Women’s Commission has at it’s recent Global Council meeting in Nairobi, Kenya on 1st-5th May 2006 determined to focus its Global efforts for the next 2 years to create effective methods towards reduction and ultimate illumination of this pandemic.

The Women’s Commission will seek to do this by seeking a Biblical and Theological response to the HIV/AIDS Pandemic. This will be done by addressing the following pertinent issues:

· Human Dignity and Worth

· Family Life

· Male and Female relationships

· Sexual behaviour

· Others as deemed necessary

Further the Women’s Commission will seek to produce a position paper for understanding and implementation of the above through the WEA Constituency.

To implement these issues it is anticipated that Leadership Awareness and Training Programmes will be established to aid all areas of Leadership within the Church including Pastors and Youth Pastors. It is further anticipated that DVD’s CD’s and Videos will be produced to encourage use by Churches and the Multi-media. It is our expectation that people with relative expertise will need to be invited to partner with us.

It is expected that Donors will need to be invited to commit to funding the above two-year project.
