PHILIPPINES — Cutting edge, exhilarating, deeply moving these are just a few of the ways participants described the recent national youth camp in Dasmarinas, Philippines. A first for the Church of God Philippines, over 550 youth attended this hallmark event. “All our expectations were exceeded…and then some,” stated Marc A. Morris, regional superintendent.
The theme for the youth camp, commonly called the NYC, was being “real.” Each plenary service, held at Church of God Dasma pastored by Anthony Velasco, dealt with a particular dimension about being real – that is an encounter, change, and convergence. Without a doubt, many campers experienced these elements as the Holy Spirit touched their hearts in a real way.
Special speakers for NYC included Bo Madden, youth pastor from Praise Cathedral, Greer, SC, and local pastors Ronald Camiling and Jerry Cruzem. A special designated gift of sponsorship from Praise Cathedral provided a partnership that inspired and increased the impact of the NYC. “Thank you, thank you, thank you…for your investment,” said Norbert Pinera, national youth director.
Plans are underway for the second national youth camp for 2014. And if the first NYC is any indicator, it will be a real success as well. Pray for continued revival and mobilization of these talented and dedicated young people of the Philippines.
