The WEA, A Rocha International, and the Lausanne/WEA Creation Care Network stood up to protect God’s gift of creation by signing the Faith Call to Action Statement for the UN Biodiversity Summit on Sept. 30. By signing this statement evangelicals joined over fifty other religious bodies and faith based organizations to take action to reverse the world’s biodiversity crisis. Bishop Efriam Tendero, the WEA’s Secretary General and CEO, explained signing the statement the following way: “Faithful Christian discipleship calls for evangelicals to be joyful and committed stewards of God’s gift of creation. In today’s context, where God’s creation is suffering from the interconnected crises of severe biodiversity loss, ecosystem destruction, and climate change, this call to stewardship comes with utmost urgency. In response, and in solidarity with the global initiative to reverse the loss of biodiversity, the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) calls for decisive action on these crises. This action includes inviting the global evangelical community to support the WEA’s commitment to work ardently for a just, sustainable, carbon-neutral, and nature-positive world.”
An evangelical statement on biodiversity will be released closer to the UN Biodiversity Summit on Sept. 30, 2020. To learn more about the world’s biodiversity crisis read the recent report released by WWF entitled The Living Planet Report 2020.]]>
