After heading up and bringing coherence to the World Evangelical Alliance’s (WEA) more recently established Church in Community Department, Amanda Jackson is stepping back from her role as Associate Secretary General and will exclusively focus on her work with WEA’s Women’s Commission starting from July 1.
“We’re very grateful for Amanda’s faithful building of relationships and connections in the development of the new Church in Community Department as well as her work in linking WEA with other networks in the wider Church,” said Bp Efraim Tendero, Secretary General of the WEA. “And I am grateful that she will continue to serve in her leadership role with the Women’s Commission, where she can express her passion for churches working to advance God’s Kingdom, especially among women.”

Ms. Jackson was appointed in 2016 to lead the newly created Church in Community Department, which includes WEA area networks ranging from women, youth, family, and children, to Bible advocacy, pastoring of pastors, and discipleship. At a meeting in Seoul, Korea at the end of last year, she brought together the leaders of those networks to formulate a joint vision and mission statement and to strengthen the collaboration between them.
“I will be staying on in my role as Director of the Women’s Commission and am pleased that I can build on the valuable work we have been doing to train leaders, engage on issues like trafficking and building a stronger voice in public debates about important social issues,” Ms. Jackson said. “We want to see women leading at every level in the church and using their gifting to grow the Kingdom.”
In the interim, Rev. Esme Bowers, who chairs The Evangelical Alliance of South Africa (TEASA) and has served in the WEA spheres on regional and global levels for many years, will give oversight to the Church in Community Department.
