The Refugee Task Force of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) calls on churches and believers to pray for and support local churches that are serving refugees in camps and other places along migration routes. From the beginning, churches have been providing for refugees’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs, as they escape war, conflict and persecution. But financial resources are needed at this time to respond to increasing immediate needs, especially as winter is approaching.
Since its launch in September, the Refugee Task Force of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) has been convening leaders of its Evangelical Alliances, refugee organizations, aid agencies, local churches and others, to develop a comprehensive grass roots strategy on how to respond to the ongoing refugee crisis. With the winter approaching and temperatures falling, the immediate needs are a main concern.
"Local churches who live in the midst of the crisis themselves are living examples of how to be loving neighbors. Far from the headlines of media, they have been serving refugees despite their own economic hardship, and they will be key when it comes to serving refugees during the approaching winter," said Comm. Christine MacMillan, WEA’s Director of Public Engagement who leads the refugee task force. "They now urgently need our support as they serve an overwhelming number of men, women and children who have left everything behind."
The WEA has established a Refugee Crisis Fund and calls on believers from every region to respond with prayer and with financial resources. "We ask you to join these churches that are serving sacrificially in the spirit of the Gospel," Comm. MacMillan added.
