2016 New Year Message From the AEA General Secretary

We look back at 2015 with a sense of pride in what we, as an Evangelical family, managed to achieve during the year. After holding a successful AEA General Assembly in Zimbabwe, that saw the election of new leadership and our continued efforts in Relief and Development; Human Rights with a focus on Women and Children; Evangelism and Missions; and Theology Taskforce all making great strides in 2015. In 2015, we managed to support the Ebola epidemic response efforts carried out by our National Evangelical Alliances in the Mano Region in Africa. This was a key output area within AEA, as it provided a prime example of what we can achieve when we work together in unity and in one accord.
 
2016 heralds the AEA Jubilee. It was in February 1966 when AEA came into being in Limuru, Kenya and we plan to commemorate our Jubilee with a theological consultation to be held from November 15 -21, 2016 in Kenya. This event will give the Evangelical family in Africa an opportunity to reflect on how far God has brought His Church and pray He would envision the Church for the next fifty years to come and beyond.
 
AEA also envisions moving a step closer to realising its vision towards self sustainability with the construction of Phase 1 of the AEA centre in Valley road, Nairobi. The AEA building project, as you would know, ensures a vibrant and sustainable AEA that provides not only a credible and  effective voice, but also a strong representation of the  Church in Africa that is faithfully and diligently carrying out the Great Commission and engaging society for Africa’s renaissance and sustainable development.
 
We remain concerned about the ongoing challenges faced by the peoples of Burundi, Mali, Central African Republic and South Sudan.  We will continue, through our various interactions with intergovernmental bodies like the AU and UN, to ensure their plight remains on the international agenda. We ask you, individual Christians, partner organisations, member evangelical associations and the wider Body of Christ, to join us this year as we support those in dire need and to impact communities affected by conflict and disease in our beloved continent.
 
We thank all our partners, for their key strategic support in 2015 and look forward to an even brighter calendar year for Africa. On behalf of my brothers and sisters in AEA, I wish you all a prosperous 2016.
