Two visits in 2025 paved the way for the unanimous approval of the Council of Evangelical Protestant Churches of Ukraine as a member of the EEA.

Ukraine finally has representation in the European Evangelical Alliance. A process that began in 2022 culminated in a vote confirming the Council of Evangelical Protestant Churches of Ukraine (CEPCU) as a full member on 17 September.
The CEPCU is now formally connected with other national Evangelical Alliances in its effort to seek unity among evangelicals in Europe and represent their views before international organisations.
The vote to accept the representative of Ukrainian evangelicals was unanimous at the European Evangelical Alliance‘s annual Members Meeting, held in Montenegro on 17 September 2025.
“For Ukrainian Evangelical Protestant Churches, membership in the EEA is an important step in the development of international cooperation, shared witness and protection of religious freedom in Europe and the world”, said the Council when announcing on social media the move to reach out to evangelicals in the rest of Europe.
Connie Duarte, co-general secretary of the EEA, explained to Evangelical Focus that a delegation from Ukraine had already participated in the Hope for Europe event in 2022, expressing interest in strengthening ties with the European evangelical movement. In 2023, meetings in Warsaw, Poland, led to a better mutual knowledge.
In 2025, Jan Wessels, the other co-secretary general of the EEA, visited Ukraine twice. Once in June 2025 and, most recently, on Ukraine’s National Day of Prayer at the end of August.
“They are excited to be a part of the EEA family and we are delighted to welcome them in”, said Connie Duarte. “So many of our National Evangelical Alliances have engaged with them along the 3 years of war, so it seems natural that we are now more formally joined together”.
The European Evangelical Alliance has repeatedly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Russian Evangelical Alliance is also a member of the EEA.
