New Delhi: The Asia Evangelical Alliance (AEA) deplores the proposed burning of copies of the sacred Qur’an by the Dove World Outreach Centre in Florida, USA, on September 11 to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. While we acknowledge citizens’ right to protest in the free world, such a move will hurt the sentiments of the civilized society around the world and create tensions. It is a calculated and hateful act directly intended to outrage the religious feelings of our Muslim Neighbours.

AEA urges the local authorities to prevent the Centre from carrying out this insensitive act. Asia is home to all major religions and ideologies of the world. And followers of all religions have suffered and have had their sacred books burnt. Yet these religions continue to flourish.

The words of Jesus Christ must be the guiding light of His followers. Jesus said: "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." (Matthew 5:43-45)

AEA calls upon all Christians to join in prayer and protest the Dove World Outreach Centre’s plan.
