Dear Friends in Christ,

The World Evangelical Alliance is a global ministry working with local churches around the world to join in common concern to live and proclaim the Good News of Jesus in their communities. God is glorified and the nations of the earth are forever transformed.

The purpose of the WEA Religious Liberty Prayer Release is to keep you informed and mobilized in prayer and intercession for the needs of justice and religious liberty in the Church around the globe, so that we can stand together for the work of the Kingdom and the healing of the Nations. The Prayer Release is comprised on the basis of different credible resources. 

 

Christian-convert tortured for his faith in INDIA
It is reported that on 9 April, Joginder Gold, a convert from Hinduism, was tortured by Hindu extremists for his faith in Christ.
According to reports, Joginder Gold was led to a farm house by the attackers, who then severely tortured him for several hours. In a media report, Gold stated: “They tied me upside down on a tree and started verbally abusing me for my faith in Christ and started to beat me on the soles of my feet.”

Prayer points:

  • Pray for God’s healing mercy upon Joginder Gold;
  • Pray that God would strengthen his faith and encourage him to stand firm in spite of the pressure and persecution;
  • Pray that those persecuting Christians would experience a change of heart, repent, and turn toward God.

Churches restricted in ALGERIA
It is reported that churches in Algeria are facing restrictions from the authorities despite constitutional safeguards on religious freedom.
On 24 April 2016, authorities ordered a church in the north-eastern province of Kabylie to discontinue all religious activities on the grounds that it was in breach of a 2006 law that regulates non-Muslim worship. The authorities also threatened that they would initiate legal action against the church in the event it refused to comply with the order.
Prayer points:

  • Pray that the authorities would safeguard religious freedom in Algeria;
  • Pray that the authorities would not discriminate against Christian churches;
  • Pray that God would grant wisdom to church leaders in Algeria to respond with prudence.

Islamic State destroys iconic Clock Church in IRAQ
According to reports, Islamic State (IS) militants have destroyed the iconic Clock Church in Mosul, Iraq.
Known as the Sa’a Qadima Church, the structure, built in 1872, was considered an archeological site. According to activists, the church’s destruction is said to be a part of a series of attacks on historical sites in the Nineveh province by IS militants.
Prayer points:

  • Pray that Christians living in Iraq would trust God for protection and guidance;
  • Pray that there will be an end to the violence unleashed by the Islamic State in the Middle East;
  • Pray for church leaders in Iraq that they would stand firm and continue to minister faithfully amidst the violence and destruction.
