In Psalm 23, David reminds us that even in our darkest hours, God is with us to comfort and to guide. The words of the psalmist came true in a most remarkable and amazing way. Many years later, through the cry of baby Jesus – a descendant of David – God broke into the darkness of a world caught up in violence, oppression and greed. Emmanuel, God is still with us in this world.

“To you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger” (Gospel of Luke 2: 11-12).

The account of Jesus’ birth reminds us today of the hope that we have in God’s faithfulness to all of creation, of the Lordship of Christ, and that we are called to participate in the life of Jesus. We have the Good News that brings the joy that Jesus is the Savior for all the people.

May the verses of Luke’s gospel about Jesus’ noble lineage yet humble birth be a warning call to all Christians that commercialism and materialism have no place in the kingdom of the Christ Child.

In the coming year, the WEA will continue to proclaim the Good News of the gospel of Jesus, to strengthen and encourage churches and communities to live out the justice, courage and love brought to us by the Prince of Peace. It is our hope and prayer that you will join with us on this journey of discipleship as we celebrate Christ’s birth together this Christmas.

From all the WEA family we wish you a very blessed Christmas and New Year!

P.S. We encourage you to include WEA in your Christmas or year-end giving to help us pursue our mission of advancing the good news of Jesus Christ!
