The Association of Evangelicals in Africa sends these prayer requests. Please pray for the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya and the Kenyan Council of Churches, as they pray for and help to serve the bereaved and the injured. Gordon Showell-Rogers, Associate Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance, says: "Please pray also for wisdom for Kenyan church leaders, and Kenyan politicians (1. Timothy 2:1-4), as they process the long-term implications – whatever they are – of this terrible attack."

At least 62 people have been killed and 175 injured in an assault by militants on a shopping centre in Kenya's capital, Nairobi. This tragedy has left both the local and international community in a state of despair and shock. That armed gunmen would storm a mall, in one of the safest neighborhoods in Nairobi, executing people: women and children, anyone who got in their path is inconceivable.

The death toll is rising with the Red Cross reporting that over 45 people are still unaccounted for. The attacks left scores injured, with reports at a hospital in Nairobi confirming that 20 victims are scheduled for various surgeries this morning.

It is feared some people are still held hostage in the building and we pray for God’s peace and strength as they face this most harrowing of experiences.

Kenya’s President, Uhuru Kenyatta, in his statement urged for calm and patience as the Government forces try to take full control of the building. As we go to press, there have been simultaneous explosions at the mall with huge smoke billowing out of the building.Kenyan Interior Cabinet Secretary Ole Lenku told a press conference that two terrorists have been killed and 10 security personnel have been injured this morning. It is three days since the siege and the Nation is tense as events of the attack are still unfolding.

The acting General Secretary of the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya, Mrs. Connie Kivuti alongside members of the National Council of Churches in Kenya are praying and visiting the injured in various hospitals in the city.

AEA General Secretary, Rev. Aiah Foday Khabenje, commiserated with the victims of this brutal attack. His message read, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kenya and indeed their international guests afflicted by terrorist attack of Al shabab. May the Lord's sovereign will and purposes reign. Heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed and God's balm for the wounded.”

We urge our brothers and sisters around the world to join Kenya in prayer as it faces one of the worst terrorist attacks in recent times. We pray for a swift and casualty-free conclusion to this tragedy.
