The World Evangelical Alliance is a global ministry working with local churches around the world to join in common concern to live and proclaim the Good News of Jesus in their communities. God is glorified and the nations of the earth are forever transformed.
 
The purpose of the WEA Religious Liberty Prayer Release is to keep you informed and mobilized in prayer and intercession for the needs of justice and religious liberty in the Church around the globe, so that we can stand together for the work of the Kingdom and the healing of the Nations. The Prayer Release is comprised on the basis of different credible resources. 
 

Christian leader abducted in Cameroon

18 November, It is reported that a French missionary in Cameroon has been kidnapped in Ngutchewe, in the Koza region, bordering Nigeria.

According to reports, Georges Vandenbeusch, 42, was abducted from his home on 13 November 2013 by a group of armed men.

Vandenbeusch, a senior church leader and a popular personality, was warned about the danger but chose to stay in Ngutchewe to continue his ministry.

Radical Islamist group, Boko Haram, has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

Prayer points:

  • Pray  for God’s protection over Georges Vandenbeusch;
  • Pray that God would strengthen him during this perilous time;
  • Pray that he would be released without harm;
  • Pray for Boko Haram, that they would renounce violence against Christians.

150 Christians arrested in Eritrea

10 November, According to reports, a group of around 150 Christians were arrested by Eritrean security forces in a raid on a prayer meeting in a suburb of Asmara, the country’s capital city.

It is believed that the group of Christians, who belonged to the "Living God" underground fellowship, had met to pray about the country’s refugee crisis and other national concerns.

In an earlier incident, 30 members of the Church of the Living God were arrested in August for gathering for prayer in Kushet.

Prayer points:

  • Pray that the Christians would be released from detention;
  • Pray that they would stand firm in their faith, and continue to trust in the LORD during this difficult time;
  • Pray for safety during their detention;
  • Pray that Christians imprisoned across Eritrea would place their hope in Jesus.

Christian woman forced to discontinue prayer meetings in Sri Lanka

1 October, It is reported that a Christian woman was threatened by a mob of around 30 people for holding prayer meetings at her home in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka.

According to reports, the mob led by a group of 15 Buddhist monks, stormed the home of the Christian and gave her an ultimatum to stop prayer meetings within 3 days or face demolition of her house.

During the police inquiry on the incident, the authorities threatened her with arrest if she continued to hold prayer meetings at her home. The woman was also forced to sign a document stating that she would discontinue the prayer meetings with immediate effect.

Prayer points:

  • Pray for God’s protection over the Christian woman and her family;
  • Pray that she would stand firm in her faith in spite of the persecution;
  • Pray that the LORD would enable her to, once again, start prayer meetings at her home;
  • Pray that the Lord would soften the hearts of those persecuting Christians in Sri Lanka.
