Shawiya of Algeria
The Shawiya (pronounced Shah-wee-ya) is one of the numerous Berber groups in North Africa. The major feature that binds the Shawiya together is their language. Since the 8th century, they have been dominated by the Arabs, who forbade expressions of their language and culture until recent years. Life for the Shawiya is simple. They have long been mocked by their countrymen for being simpletons, yet are known for their wisdom.

Ministry Obstacles
To follow Christ in the Shawiya community carries the risk of loss of relationships, not to mention physical danger.

Outreach Ideas
Sustained and focused prayer is needed to help these people begin to hunger to know Jesus.

Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the followers of Christ that will soon come from the Shawiya community. Pray they will be able to fellowship together, and become firmly established on the truth of Scripture.

Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Shawiya people will become truly wise by finding the One who is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge.

Scripture Focus
"Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples." Psalm 96:3

Presented by Joshua Project

Joshua Project is a research initiative of the U.S. Center for World Mission (USCWM) seeking to highlight the ethnic people groups of the world with the least followers of Christ. It gathers, integrates and shares people group information to encourage pioneer church-planting movements among every ethnic group and to facilitate effective coordination of mission agency efforts.
